Mandan Motocross is a public motocross track west of Mandan, North Dakota, just off I-94. It runs on natural terrain with hills, jumps and tight corners, and it hosts two race weekends a year as part of the North Dakota Motocross Association points series. Riders from age four through seasoned veterans compete here, and a hillside overlooking the track gives spectators one of the better viewing setups in the state.

Natural Terrain, Not a Bulldozed Field

The layout uses the land rather than fighting it. Hills, elevation change, jumps and tight corners are built into terrain that already had shape, which is why the track works for such a wide range of riders. Beginners find lines they can manage while experienced racers still have plenty to work with.

That natural hillside is also what makes this a good spectator track. Families and friends of riders pack the slope overlooking the course on race weekends, watching from above rather than through a fence. For a sport where spectators often see only part of a lap, that is a real advantage.

Growing Race Weekends

The track has grown steadily. Events that once drew around a hundred riders now run as full weekends with close to 250 participants.

Mandan hosts two NDMA points weekends each season, typically one in June and one in early September, each running Saturday and Sunday. The September weekend often closes out the state’s motocross season, making it one of the two biggest race dates in North Dakota motocross.

Classes cover the full range, with riders as young as four competing through to veterans, which is exactly the spread you want at a track that describes itself as a family tradition.

Facilities

The setup is straightforward and practical. There is parking for trailers, the hillside spectator area, on site camping and a small concessions operation on race days.

Camping on site matters for a two day race weekend. Riders hauling from Dickinson, Jamestown or across the state can arrive Friday, set up, and be ready for Saturday practice without paying for a room in Mandan or Bismarck.

Getting There

The track is about five miles west of Mandan. From I-94 take exit 147, go north a short distance, then turn east onto the gravel frontage road on the north side of the interstate. Follow it east for a mile, then turn north at 25th Avenue and continue about two and a half miles.

Mandan sits across the Missouri River from Bismarck in central North Dakota. The NDMA publishes the season schedule each year, and the track’s Facebook page carries event details, track conditions and weather calls.
